ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team continues the conference season this weekend when they travel to St. Paul. The undefeated Blazers will play the undefeated and fifth-ranked University of St. Thomas at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, in St. Paul.
About St. Thomas
The Tommies head into the matchup 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC, including a 69-60 win against Augsburg last Saturday in Minneapolis. St. Thomas is coming off a 2015-16 season where it went 26-4 overall and 16-2 in the MIAC. Four Tommies average double digits in points this season. Kaitlin Langer leads the MIAC with 18.3 points per game.
Last Year
Saint Benedict lost to St. Thomas 54-36 last year on Jan. 13 in St. Paul. The Blazers were down one at the end of the first quarter, but St. Thomas pulled away in the second quarter. The Blazers forced 25 turnovers, but it was not enough beat the No. 19 Tommies. Kaitlin Langer had 13 points and seven rebounds for St. Thomas.
Niki Fokken had 11 points and three blocks for CSB. The Tommies went on to win the MIAC Championship and lost in the section semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.

Chelsey Guetter leads the team with 11.4 points per game followed by
Niki Fokken with 11.0 points per game, and
Chelsey Guetter averages 7.7 rebounds per game. Fokken was named MIAC athlete of the week after scoring a career-high 25 points Saturday. She is the first conference athlete of the week for CSB since the 2010 season.
The Storyline
Saint Benedict has opened the 2016-17 season with seven straight wins and the latest was a 73-59 win against Augsburg on Wednesday. CSB looks to stay undefeated with a win over No. 5 St. Thomas before a nonconference game Tuesday, Dec. 13, when they travel to UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m. This is Saint Benedict's first road game since its season opener on Nov. 15.
The last time CSB beat the Tommies was Jan. 12, 2013, when Saint Benedict upset UST – ranked No. 3 at the time – 66-62 in Claire Lynch. The last time CSB beat UST in St. Paul was Feb. 13, 2010, when it won 60-51.
