CSB wraps up road stretch at Hamline

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team had a big win over St. Olaf last week by a score of 65-54. After improving their record to 12-5, the Blazers will be on the road to Saint Paul to take on Hamline for their seventh consecutive MIAC game. The game takes places at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27.

About the Pipers: The Pipers started out their season with four consecutive losses before getting a win over Crown College. From there they have gone 2-10 and are 1-9 in conference play. The Pipers will be heading into the game against the Blazers coming off of a 57-71 loss to St Catherine and looking to snap a six-game losing streak.
Last Meeting: The Blazers beat the Pipers 65- 48 Dec. 9 in Claire Lynch Hall in the two teams' first meeting this year. The Blazers led 12-2 after the first quarter, and held on for a decisive 65-46 victory. Kate Banovetz led CSB with 10 points and seven rebounds and Grace Wolhowe added nine points.

The Storyline: The Blazers have now won five of their last six games, all against conference opponents. Hamline will be heading into this matchup having lost their last six games. The Blazers will be looking to improve their MIAC record of 7-3 on their fifth straight road game. CSB is tied for third in the MIAC with Concordia and Gustavus.

What to Watch: Niki Fokken currently leads the Blazers with 9.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Annie Dittberner averages another 9.2 points per game. Alison Newton also averages 3.0 assists per game and Wolhowe is currently leading the MIAC with a .490 three-point percentage.

Last Time Out: In their last game, the Blazers took a big conference win over St. Olaf with a score of     65-54. In the first quarter, the Blazers battled and took the lead and finished the quarter 20-19 lead. The Blazers then pulled ahead and went into the locker rooms with a 35-25. St. Olaf cut into the lead in the third quarter and the teams entered the final quarter with a score of 42-38.  The Blazers retook control and rolled through the fourth quarter with an 11-point win. The Blazers finished the game with four starters scoring in double figures and Fokken leading the team with 12 points. Alison Newton led the team with five assists. Macy Kelly and Chelsey Guetter both had six rebounds.
