CSB basketball continues road stretch at Gustavus

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After taking a big 63-56 win over Augsburg College on Saturday, the College of Saint Benedict basketball team improved its record to 10-5 and 5-3 in the conference. The Blazers head to St. Peter, Minn. to face off against Gustavus Adolphus College at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20.
 
Wednesday's game marks the third in a five-game road stretch for the Blazers. CSB is on the road twice more after playing the Gusties, and finally returns home Jan. 30.
 
About the Gusties: The Gusties currently sit with an overall record of 11-4 after starting the year 8-2. After dropping two consecutive games, the Gusties will be heading into their matchup against the Blazers with a three-game winning streak. The Gusties have also gone 6-2 in conference play this season and will be looking to extend this streak of conference wins. Mikayla Miller leads the team in scoring (15.7) and rebounds (5.8) and Lindsey Johnson also averages double digits scoring (13.1).
 
Last Year: Last season, the Blazers fell to the Gusties in a very close 55-52 loss at home. The two teams battled back and forth throughout the first half and sat with the score tied at 26-26 at halftime. From here, the Blazers added another 26 points in the second half but came up short to the Gusties who added another 29 points in the second half.  Annie Dittberner led the Blazers with 10 points and three assists as Kate Banovetz added another eight points and four rebounds.
 
The Storyline: The Blazers have won three of their last four conference games and will be heading into this game looking to keep building up their momentum. The Blazers will also be looking to take the win at Gustavus to revenge their close home loss to the Gusties last season. The Gusties have also been building up momentum as both teams head into the middle of their conference season.
 
Who to Watch: Niki Fokken currently leads the Blazers with 9.7 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game and Dittberner averages another 9.3 points in each game. Alison Newton also averages 2.9 assists per game and Grace Wolhowe is currently leading the MIAC with a .490 three-point percentage.
 
Last Time Out: In their last game, the Blazers took a huge 63-56 win on the road over Augsburg. The Blazers started out the night with a 17-13 lead in the first quarter before the Auggies came back to tie the score at 28-28 going into the second half. From here, the Blazers jumped out to an early lead in the third quarter and led the Auggies by a score of 50-46 after the third quarter. The Blazers then continued to slowly extend their lead until they finished the night with a 63-56 win. Dittberner led the Blazers' offense with 15 points and Chelsey Guetter added another 10 points and seven rebounds. Macy Kelly also finished with nine points and nine rebounds as Newton added nine points and nine assists.
