NORTHFIELD, Minn. – After giving up two first-period goals, the College of Saint Benedict hockey team settled in and scored five unanswered goals en route to a 5-2 win over St. Olaf College Friday night in Northfield, Minn.
 
The Blazers are now 4-9-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the MIAC. St. Olaf falls to 1-12-1 overall and 0-6-1 in the league.
 
The first period belonged to the Oles Friday night. St. Olaf scored six minutes into the game, and then added a second goal less than two minutes later to make the score 2-0 at the end of the first period.
 
The Blazers' offense came alive in the second, however. Aly Hoffman started the scoring with an unassisted shorthanded goal at the 5:40 mark of the second to make it a one-goal game. Two minutes later, Elli Marvin scored her first goal of the game off an assist from Maddie Dockry to tie the game at 2-2.
 
Liz Hermes scored the eventual game-winner with two left in the second off an assist from Kimberly Patterson to make it 3-2 and give Saint Benedict the momentum heading into the final period.
 
After several Ole shots to start the third, Marvin added some insurance with her second goal of the game at the three-minute mark to make it 4-2. The Blazers killed off three third-period penalties, and Hermes scored an empty-net goal in the final minute to put the game away for good.
 
The Oles outshot Saint Benedict 33-21, but first-year goalie Angel Hillstrom made 31 saves to keep the Blazers in the game. Marvin finished with seven shots on goal and Hermes added five shots on net.
 
The Blazers and Oles are back in action Saturday, Jan. 16 at the MAC in St. Cloud. The puck drops at 1:45 p.m.
