Blazers look to keep momentum rolling at Carleton

Live Video | Live Stats

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team picked up a huge win Wednesday night, and the Blazers are looking for a second straight victory Saturday, Feb. 14, to keep their momentum going as the regular season winds down. The Blazers head to Northfield, Minn., for a 1 p.m. game against Carleton College.

Saturday's game has big playoff implications as, with three games left in the regular season, Saint Benedict is tied for sixth in the conference with Augsburg with an 8-7 MIAC mark. The Knights are in 10th with a 5-10 MIAC record, and are looking to try and end the season with some wins in an effort to sneak into the sixth and final playoff spot.

About the Knights: Carleton enters Saturday's game 7-15 overall and 5-10 in the MIAC. The Knights are looking to snap a three-game losing streak and gain some momentum as they end the season with Bethel and Saint Mary's, who are both in the top five in the conference. Skylar Tsutsui is the only player averaging double digits in scoring for Carleton at 13.9 points per game, but Michele Arima (9.2) and Gabbi Stienstra (8.9) are right behind. Nnenna Ezem leads the Knights with 6.7 rebounds per game.

Last Meeting: The Blazers came away with a 58-49 win against Carleton when the two teams met Jan. 10 in St. Joseph. Niki Fokken finished with 13 points and seven rebounds for CSB and Annie Dittberner and Abby Miller each chipped in with eight points. Last year, CSB swept the season series, winning 72-50 Feb. 15 in St. Joseph and 81-73 Jan. 18 in Northfield.

The Storyline: Both teams are looking to win today to gain momentum heading into the final stretch of the 2014-15 season and find a way into the playoffs. Saint Benedict is currently right on the edge of earning a spot in the six-team postseason tournament as it is tied for sixth with Augsburg, and the Knights sit in 10th. Just two games remain in the regular season after today's contest.

Who to Watch: Mattie Lueck led the team again against Saint Mary's with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Annie Dittberner and Abby Miller each finished with 11 points, and Allison Newton added nine points and six rebounds. Niki Fokken pulled down eight rebounds against the Cardinals after seeing limited playing time recently due to injury. Lueck leads the team and is sixth in the MIAC in scoring at 15.1 points per game and she also averages 7.2 rebounds. Miller averages 8.2 points and Dittberner is at 7.8 points per game.
