CSB basketball to host Quinlivan & Hughes Tip-Off Tournament

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team opens its home season this weekend when it hosts the Quinlivan & Hughes Tip-Off Tournament. The Blazers welcome Crown College and Saint Mary's University to the annual tournament, which runs Friday through Sunday, Nov. 20-22, in Claire Lynch Hall.

Friday, Nov. 20: Saint Benedict vs Crown, 7 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 21: Saint Mary's vs Crown, 3 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 22: Saint Benedict vs Saint Mary's (nonconference), 3 p.m.
 
About Crown
The Storm head into the weekend 0-1 after starting their season with an 89-58 loss to St. Kate's. Crown is coming off a 2014-15 season where it went 3-22 overall. Jessica Klaustermeier led Crown with 13 points and five rebounds against St. Kate's and Hannah Malone added 10 points. The Storm shot 34.8 percent from the field and went 24-for-33 from the line.
 
About Saint Mary's
Saturday's game against Crown College marks the first official game of the year for Saint Mary's. The Cardinals went 18-9 overall and finished 11-7 and third in the conference standings. The Cardinals lost their top two scorers, but return junior Emma Schaefer, who averaged 9.6 points per game, and senior Bridget Pethke, who finished the year averaging 9.3 points per game. Pethke also led the team with 5.6 rebounds per game.
 
This weekend kicks off a busy stretch for the Blazers, who play four games in the next five days. After hosting Crown and Saint Mary's, CSB travels to Martin Luther Monday night and hosts UW-Superior Tuesday, Nov. 24. The Blazers are at home three of their four games in December prior to the holiday break.
 
Saint Benedict opened the 2015-16 season with a 69-64 win over UW-Stout last weekend. Junior Annie Dittberner led the team with 14 points, Kate Banovetz added 11, Chelsey Guetter finished with 10 points and Niki Fokken had 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead CSB. Banovetz also had eight rebounds for CSB, which used a big fourth quarter to push past the Blue Devils.
 
CSB starts its conference season Wednesday, Dec. 2, when it hosts Carleton College at 7 p.m.
