BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 |

St. Paul, Minn. – With a 2-1 victory in game one of the doubleheader on Sunday (Apr. 6), the Saint Benedict softball team beat rival St. Thomas for the first time since 2009.  UST came back to earn the split on the day with a 6-0 victory in game two.

The Blazers (17-6, 4-4 MIAC) win over the No. 17 ranked Tommies (17-5, 5-1 MIAC) ended UST's 47-game winning streak at home and 30-game winning streak against conference teams.

Kelsey McQuillan (Stillwater, Minn.) had a two-RBI double in the top of the third that scored Kim Lidstone (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Melissa Seldon (Rosemount, Minn.) and that was all the Blazers would need.

The Tommies came back with one in the bottom of the inning, but Blazer starter Emily Engelmeier (South St. Paul, Minn.) retired 11 of the last 12 batters she faced to earn the win.

Engelmeier went the distance to improve to 10-0 on the year, allowing just the lone run, while striking out four.

In game two the Tommies were paced by three homeruns from Brenna Walek. She was the only offense they would need, driving in all six runs, which included a three-run shot in the sixth inning to blow open a game that was otherwise close.

Rachel Nelson (Lindstrom, Minn.) took the loss, despite allowing just four other hits all day and striking out five without a walk.

The Blazers have now won four of their past six and are off until heading to Saint Mary's on Saturday (Apr. 12) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader with the Cardinals.
