Pipers Take Pair of One-run Games

The Blazer softball team fell 6-5 twice to Hamline.

In the sixth, the Pipers fired back once again with three more runs to give them a 6-5 lead heading into the last inning. The Pipers then held the Blazers off to take the 6-5 win.
 
Stacy Svihel (Cold Spring, Minn.) led the Blazer offense in game one by going three-for-four with a run. Lidstone and Emily Engelmeier (South St. Paul, Minn.) each added another two hits to their team's total of 10. Lidstone and Maddie Lenker (Eden Prairie, Minn.) also each finished with two RBI. Engelmeier pitched the first five innings of the game and finished with four strikeouts and four walks. Rachel Nelson (Lindstrom, Minn.) then came in for the final inning and recorded one more strikeout.
 
In the second game of the day, the Pipers again jumped ahead with a 1-0 lead after the first inning before a two-run third inning landed them a 3-0 lead. The Blazers then responded with a two-run fourth inning and a three run fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead going into the sixth inning. Highlighting the fifth was a three-run homerun from Lexi Alm (Stacy, Minn.) to put CSB up by one.
 
The Pipers then battled back to tie the game at 5-5 with a run in the sixth inning. After playing two extra innings, the Pipers managed to drive in the winning run to take the game by a score of 6-5 in nine innings.
 
Lidstone and Alm both had three hits in this game as Alm finished with four RBIs. Kelsey McQuillian (Stillwater, Minn.) also aided the Blazers' offense with two hits and Engelmeier finished with a hit and an RBI. Nelson pitched all nine innings of the game and finished with six strikeouts and one walk.
 
The Blazers will move on to play a doubleheader against Augsburg on Thursday (Apr. 17) at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in Minneapolis. This will be the second team the Blazers will face in the middle of their six straight MIAC matchups before closing out the regular season.
