St. Joseph, Minn. – The Saint Benedict basketball team rebounded from a five game losing streak tonight (Feb. 12) by taking a huge 74-49 victory over Macalester at home.  This type of win is exactly what the Blazers needed to regain momentum as they head into the last three games of the regular season.

With the win, the Blazers' record reaches .500 again with a mark of 11-11. Their conference record also improves to 8-11 with three more conference games remaining in the season.

The game started out close with three ties in the first five minutes, as the Blazers never found themselves in a deficit. From here, the Blazers took a 12-0 run to give themselves an 18-6 lead. The Blazers followed this up with runs of 6-2 and 5-0 to take a 37-23 lead.

In the second half, the Blazers came out strong, starting with an 11-2 run to extend their lead to 48-27. After going back and forth for the next eight minutes, the Blazers once again pulled even farther ahead with an 8-2 run to put the score at 62-39. They followed this up with another 8-2 run to take a 29 point lead and put the score at 70-41. The Blazers then retained a large lead for the remainder of the game until they finished with a score of 74-49.

Brianna Barrett led the offense with 18 points, which puts her only 25 points away from joining the 1,000 point club. Morgan Dale also added another 15 points and 16 rebounds for yet another double-double in her best statistical season of her career.
Defensively, Dale and Tish Alexander each grabbed four steals. Annie Dittberner also added another five defensive rebounds as her team took 30 defensive rebounds throughout the night.

The Blazers return home this Saturday (Feb. 15) to face off against Carleton at 3 p.m. Playing against a team who they beat 81-73 earlier this season, the Blazers will  have another good shot to extend their momentum as they continue to drive towards the post season.
