CSB basketball starts MIAC play against Concordia

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The Saint Benedict basketball team returns home Wednesday night after going 1-1 during its trip to Seattle. The Blazers will be coming home to face off against the Cobbers of Concordia in Claire Lynch Hall at 7 p.m. for their first MIAC matchup of the season.
 
About the Cobbers: The Cobbers have started their season off well with an overall record of 3-2. They are 1-2 on the road and will also be heading into their first conference game of the season. The Cobbers will be looking to jump ahead in the conference rankings with an early season MIAC win.
 
Last Meeting: The last time these two teams faced off, the Cobbers walked away with a tight 69-63 win over the Blazers. The Blazers held a 32-27 lead at halftime, but couldn't push through to get the win. After a tough night shooting, Emily Lueck walked away with eight points to lead the offense. Mattie Lueck led the defense with four rebounds and added another two points.
 
The Storyline: After a close matchup last season, these two teams will be fighting hard for an early conference lead. With a record of 2-2, the Blazers will also be looking to get above .500 and start building momentum as they head into a match against St. Thomas this weekend.
 
Who to Watch: Abby Miller is currently leading the Blazers with 11.5 points per game as the Lueck sisters each sit over 11 ppg as well.  Mattie Lueck leads the defense with 2.8 blocks per game as well as 6.5 rebounds per game.  She is also leading the team with 2.5 assists per game. First year Niki Fokke averages a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game and is also fourth in scoring with 5.5 points per game.
 
Last Time Out: In their last time out, the Blazers walked away with a 75-71 win over Pacific Lutheran in the last game of their west coast trip. Mattie Lueck had a team high of 17 points, six assists and two blocks. She also walked away with four rebounds and two steals. Emily Lueck led the team with four steals and added another eight points on the night.
