CSB basketball tries to bounce back against Lutes

Listen Live

SEATTLE, Wash. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team is looking to snap a cold shooting spell and bounce back on the road Saturday afternoon in its second game in Seattle. After falling 75-54 to Puget Sound Friday, the Blazers take on Pacific Lutheran in an effort to end the West Coast trip on a high note.

The Schedule: CSB takes on Pacific Lutheran at 4 p.m. CDT Saturday, Nov. 22. This is the second and final game on the West Coast for the Blazers, who return to St. Joseph Sunday.

About the Lutes: Pacific Lutheran is 1-2 overall after falling 69-51 to Concordia College Friday. The Lutes started the season with a 58-56 win over Pomona-Pitzer, but dropped their next game 63-44 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Megan Abdo leads the Lutes with 13.7 points and six rebounds per game, and Jori Hall also averages double digits at 10.3 points per game. Abdo is also averaging three assists per game and Sarah Barnes has six total blocks.

Last Meeting: This is the first time Pacific Lutheran and the Blazers have met on the basketball court.

The Storyline: Saint Benedict is looking to snap a spell of cold shooting and gain some momentum heading into its MIAC opener next week. The Blazers shot just over 32 percent from the field in a loss Friday, and shot 25.9 percent in a loss to UW-River Falls on Nov. 16. CSB needs to heat up to get its offense going and start a winning streak.

Who to Watch: First year guard Abby Miller has been key for the Blazers early this season as she has been one of CSB's top two scorers in all three games. She is currently second on the team in scoring at 12.3 poinst per game and also averages 3.3 rebounds. Junior Mattie Lueck has also been solid for the Blazers and is averaging 9.3 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds. Niki Fokken, another first year, has played a huge role for CSB on the boards and is averaging seven rebounds per game.

Last Time Out: The Blazers were cold from the first half and got down early to Puget Sound Friday night in Seattle and eventually succumbed to a 75-54 loss. The Loggers led 27-16 at halftime, and CSB wasn't able to recover. Mattie Lueck led CSB with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Abby Miller finished with 15 points for the Blazers.
