Rosemount, Minn. – The Saint Benedict softball team split for the second time in as many outings on Apr. 19, falling 4-3 in the first game against Augsburg, before coming back for a 7-2 win in game two.

Playing in the Irish Sports Dome in Rosemount after all the recent schedule changes, the Blazers (15-11, 4-6 MIAC) struck first in each game, and finished with 20 hits on the day.

In game one, they saw their early 1-0 lead erased, only to score twice in the bottom of the sixth to even the score at 3-3. However in the top of the seventh, the Auggies (10-20, 3-9 MIAC) strung enough together for the lone, eventual game-winning run.

In the second game, the Blazers opened up for four runs in the third inning and never looked back. They eventually ran the lead to 7-0 before the Auggies scored a pair of harmless runs in the seventh.

Emily Engelmeier pitched the complete game in the first session, allowing three of the runs earned in the loss, falling to 5-6 on the year. Rachel Nelson also went the distance in the second game, and allowed just two runs while striking out eight to improve to 9-5 on the year, and moves into second in the MIAC in wins.

The Blazers had just six hits in the first game, and were led by Kimberly Lidstone with two. Stacey Svihel had two RBI, driving in both of the tying runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Six players had multiple hits in the second game, led by Lidstone and Svihel who each finished with three, with Lidstone finishing 5-for-8 on the day, raising her team-leading average to .444, tying for the highest it's been all season.

The Blazers will be off tomorrow, as their games with Gustavus have been canceled, but they will return to the Rosemount Dome on Sunday night for an 8 p.m. doubleheader with Macalester.
