Rochester, Minn. – After opening up for eight home runs their last time out, the Saint Benedict softball team found itself on the other side today (Apr. 14), falling 7-5 and 11-4 to Saint Mary's.

The Cardinals (13-6, 6-2 MIAC) hit five home runs on the day, including four in the first game, accounting for five of their seven runs. The last two runs came in walk-off fashion as the Cardinals Hailey Ohl connected for the game winner in bottom of the eighth.

The first of her two home runs on the day broke a 5-5 tie after the Blazers (13-9, 2-4 MIAC) had just pulled even the inning before. When Stacy Svihel came home to tie the game in the seventh, is capped a comeback from a 5-0 deficit.

Three homers and a two-run double put the Cardinals out in front 5-0 after five innings, but the Blazers came back with four runs in the sixth before tying the game in the seventh.

Lexi Alm, Emily Engelmeier and Maddie Lenker all had RBI hits in the sixth.

In the second game, it was the Blazers who jumped out ahead, taking a 4-0 lead after the first inning. They got their own power surge, as Engelmeier hit her fifth homerun of the year.

Unfortunately, that would be all the Blazers would get as the Cardinals evened the score with four in the third, and then tacked on insurance runs in eachof the next three innings, including three in both the fourth and sixth.

Rachel Nelson took the loss in game two, allowing six earned runs while striking out six. Engelmeier suffered the loss in the first game, allowing five earned runs while striking out eight.

Alm, Engelmeier and Lenker all had four hits to lead the offense, while Engelmeier had three RBI and Alm scored twice.

The Blazers are next scheduled to play at Hamline on Tuesday (Apr. 16), but with the weekend snowfall, the games may be moved to an indoor site. Check back with CSBBlazers.com for any schedule announcements.
