Clermont, Fla. – The Saint Benedict softball team continues rolling along in sunny Florida, securing two more wins today (Mar. 27), 7-2 over Wisconsin-River Falls and 6-2 over Kalamazoo (Mich.).

Emily Engelmeier pitched a complete game for the win over UW-River Falls, while Rachael Thompson threw four innings against Kalamazoo for her first career win, before handing the reigns over to Rachel Nelson who threw three scoreless innings for the save.

The two wins run the Blazers' record to 8-4 on the year, which includes a 6-2 mark in Florida with four games left to go.

In playing UW-River Falls, the Blazers were taking on a Falcon team that won the 2012 WIAC Tournament and ended their season as runner-up in the NCAA Regional Tournament, one-game shy of the Championship round.

In earning the win, Engelmeier, allowed just two runs to a team that entered the game with 23 home runs to its credit on the year. She pitched a scoreless top of the first, and after her teammates gave her a 1-0 lead to begin the second, never allowed the Falcons back in.

The Blazers went up 3-0 after the third, and after the Falcons crept within one at 3-2 in the fifth, added four more in the bottom of the fifth and sixth on their way to the win. CSB got two hits each from Kim Lidstrome, Lexi Alm and Mackenzie Wenner on their way to 10 on the day.

Alm also scored three times and was a perfect 4-of-4 stealing bases, leading the Blazers to a 6-of-6 mark on the day.

The Blazers then stole six more as they beat Kalamazoo for their third straight win, one shy of their longest streak of the year.

Thompson took the circle for her first career start, allowing just two runs over her four innings of work for the win. Nelson took over in the fifth and closed out the game by striking out five over the final three frames.

Maddie Lenker led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate while Lonni Johnson scored twice.

With four games left to play, the Blazers will begin tomorrow looking for their fourth straight win, taking on Loras as 10 a.m. They'll then square off with Buena Vista at 12 p.m., playing the two teams who tied for fifth in the tough IIAC last season.
