St. Peter, Minn. – The Saint Benedict hockey team saw the full effect of the talent of No. 2 ranked Gustavus today (Feb. 23), as the hosts scored an 8-2 win over the visiting Blazers.

The tables made their turn for good in the second period, when the Gusties (24-0-1, 18-0-0 MIAC) scored six goals to take a one-goal game, and turn it into a one-sided affair.

The Blazers (5-13-4, 3-13-2 MIAC) went down 2-0 early in the second, but got back within one just a minute later, before the Gusties went on their run to put the game away.

Alyssa Hoffman scored just 4:54 into the second to get the Blazers on the board, burying her fourth of the season, while also ending a 1:43:09 goalless drought for the Blazers.

The score game just 61 seconds after Gustavus took a two goal advantage, and quickly swung the momentum back in the Blazers favor.

It wouldn't last long though, as Gustavus responded with a scoring barrage unlike any the Blazers have faced this season. The Gusties scored four goals in a three minute stretch through the second, to turn a 3-1 advantage  into a 7-1 lead in a blink, and put the game away.

The 2013 MAIC Champions would add another in the third period, as they closed out a perfect MIAC campaign with the win, as well as an unbeaten season, suffering only a nonconference tie along the way.

The Blazers added a second off the stick of Allyson Nielsen before the final buzzer sounded, joining only St. Olaf as MIAC teams to score multiple goals in a game against the Gusties.

After Gustavus put up 46 shots last night, the Blazers held their high powered attack to 33 tonight, their sixth lowest output of the season.

Jenna Traut got the start in goal and surrendered seven of the Gusties eight before being relieved by Kaitlyn Rolando late in the second. Traut suffered the loss to fall to 3-9-2 on the year.
