Pipe Down: After dropping two-straight games to open their MIAC season the Saint Benedict (3-2, 0-2 MIAC) basketball team returns home tonight to host the winless Hamline University Pipers (0-3, 0-2 MIAC). Head Coach
Mike Durbin will be looking to win the 598th game of his 28-year coaching career, as he is just three shy of the 600 win milestone. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Claire Lynch Hall.
About the Pipers: After being picked to finish eighth in the conference the Pipers have dropped their first two games of the conference season. Both losses were on the road and came by nine-plus point margins. They are led by junior guard Jordan Sammons who was the MIAC's first women's basketball Athlete of the Week this year. Through three games she is averaging 30.3 points per game, 12.0 rebounds per game, and 3.0 steals per game.
Last Year: The Blazers defeated the Pipers twice last year, once on the road and once at home. In their home-opener the Blazers defeated the Pipers 87-72 in November at home and then traveled to St. Paul in January to defeat the Pipers by a 64-55 margin. In the November game senior forward Morgan "Windex" Dale led the team with 17 points, including 7-for-10 (70.0%) shooting from the free-throw line. The Blazer defense held the Pipers to a dismal 48-for-127 (37.8%) shooting from the field combined over the two games.

The Storyline: Which team will be able to rebound from early season disappointments to win their first MIAC game of the year. After opening the year with conference-title aspirations the Blazers can't afford to drop to 0-3 in the MIAC. The Pipers on the other hand, have yet to win a game this year. Their schedule however, doesn't get any easier as they host the conference-favorites St. Thomas Tommies on Wednesday and then travel to play reigning conference champs Concordia on Saturday. They need a win today to avoid the very real danger of starting their season with seven straight losses.
Who to Watch: Senior guard
Brianna Barrett (Annandale, Minn.) will look to extend her double-digit scoring streak to 10 games with 10 points today. She leads the Blazers with a 15.6 points per game average and lights-out .540 field goal percentage. Windex is one of two players in the MIAC to average a double-double per game (the other is Sammons). Her 11.4 rebounds per game lead the team and are second only to Sammons in the MIAC.
Last Time Out: On Saturday the Blazers traveled to Winona to take on the Saint Mary's Cardinals. After shooting a season-worst 33.3% in the first half the Blazers found themselves down 36-19 at the halftime break. The second half however featured a rejuvenated Blazer squad that couldn't seem to miss a shot if they tried. They shot a season-best 7-of-11 (63.6%) from the three-point line and turned a 19-point deficit into a two-point lead with a minute to play. They were not able to close out unfortunately, and lost the game 67-64.
