Falconry: After sweeping the season-opening Quinlivan and Hughes Tip-off Tournament last weekend the Saint Benedict basketball team (2-0, 0-0 MIAC) will attempt to maintain their perfect record on Nov. 23 when they will host Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons (0-3, 0-0 WIAC). With the Blazers two tournament wins, Head Coach Mike Durbin improved his career record to 596-170 (0.778), just four wins from the exclusive 600-win club. This will be the Blazers last non-conference game before their MIAC schedule heats up starting with St. Catherine on Dec. 4.

About the Falcons: After finishing fifth with an 8-8 conference record last year the Falcons were picked to finish seventh in the WIAC's preseason coaches' poll. They have played three games thus far, and dropped all three of them, including a 77-56 thumping by Gustavus this past Wednesday. They are led by senior forward Tessa Lueders who leads the team with 6.7 rebounds per game and is second with 11.7 points per game.

The Storyline: After a week off can the Blazers come back and complete the sweep of their non-conference schedule? They came into last year's game against the Falcons in a similar situation and ended up dropping the game. The Falcons have also dropped their first three games, and there's no doubt a win against the Blazers would be a big step in the right direction as they head into their conference schedule. A Blazer loss today would likely mean that Durbin's 600th win would have to come on the road, as the Blazers play three of their next four games at home before heading out on a three-game road trip.

Who to Watch: Senior wing Brianna Barrett (Annandale, Minn.) had the blazing-hot hand in the tip-off tournament, scoring 34 points on 13-of-17 (76.5%) shooting from the floor, including three-of-five (60%) from beyond the arc. Senior forward Morgan "Windex" Dale (Jamestown, N.D.) set a new career high with an astonishing 17 rebounds on Saturday against St. Scholastica. She leads the team with 13.5 rebounds per game and two double-doubles through two games. Sophomore forward Mattie Lueck (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) was the team's every-woman, with 16 rebounds, 14 points and eight assists on the weekend.

Last Year: In 2012, the Blazers traveled to River Falls with an undefeated record and came back home with their first loss of the season. The Blazers outshot the Falcons, making 43.1 percent of their shots to the Falcons 41.1 percent. The Falcons however outrebounded the Blazers 43-23 and made 26-of-28 free throw attempts to win the game 78-61. The Blazers were led by Barrett who scored 16 points on 5-of-12 shooting.

Last Weekend: The Blazers opened the season at home last week in the Quinlivan and Hughes tip-off tournament in Clare Lynch Hall. On Friday night they sent down the Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets by a 65-53 score. Barrett scored 18 on a perfect 6-6 night from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line to lead the Blazers to victory. On Saturday the Blazers completed the sweep, defeating the St. Scholastica Saints by a 76-57 score. Team defense was the key to the tournament victory for the Blazers. They held their two opponents to an abysmal 35.2% shooting percentage combined from the floor.
