Moorhead, Minn. – The Saint Benedict swimming and diving team dominated the pool last night (Nov. 9), on their way to a 200-42 dual meet victory over host Concordia.
The Blazers were winners in all 13 events, and took the top two spots in 11 events.
In the sprints, they swept the top-four spots, with
Stephanie Bierman leading the charge each time. Bierman stopped the clock at 2:02.75 in the 200-free, almost six seconds ahead of teammate
Ellen Dean in second (2:08.75). In the 100-free, Bierman touched the wall in 55.76 nearly four seconds better then
Maria Gathje in second.
Also in her day, Bierman anchored the Blazers winning 200-yard medley relay. She joined with
Brita Skalbeck,
Victoria Tormanen and
Laura Peterson to come in with a time of 1:54.65.
Dean scored a win individually in the 400-IM, another event where the Blazers took the top four spots. Dean won by beating the field by five seconds with her 5:00.94.
The Blazers took the top three spots in the 50-yard free, led by a 25.41 from Skalbeck, her first of two individual wins on the day. Skalbeck also led a trio of Blazers at the front of the 100-back, winning with a time of 1:02.67.
Keeping in the theme of the day,
Haley Chatelaine blasted the field in the 1650-free, finishing in 19:06.01 to win by nearly 20 seconds. She then made it a sweep of the distance events, with her winning mark of 5:37.77 in the 500-free.
On the boards,
Megan Lawson worked her way to two wins. In two separate one-meter events, she first win with a 151.85, before closing out the sweep with a 221.10 for her first two wins of the season.
After their win in the opening relay, Peterson added a win in the 100-fly with a time of 1:03.89, and Tormanen took a victory in the 100-breast at 1:11.30.
To close the day,
Isabel Pennings,
Mary Wood, Peterson and Schweitz scored a near 20-second win in the 400-free relay, stopping the clock at 3:51.22.
The Blazers return to action Nov. 10, when they travel just down to the road to MSU Moorhead for an 11 a.m. dual.
