Blazer Softball Defeats Springfield, Falls to UWRF

The College of Saint Benedict softball team picked up their second consecutive split of the season in Kissimmee, Florida Monday afternoon. CSB defeated Springfield College 5-2 in their first game of the day but fell to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in the nightcap 3-1.

First-year pitcher Trisha Johnson (New Ulm, MN, New Ulm) recorded her first collegiate win of the season against Springfield by going four innings and allowing only two hits and no runs.  First-year pitcher Rachel Nelson (Lindstrom, MN, Chisago Lakes) picked up her first collegiate save for the Blazers by pitching the last three innings to hold off Springfield.

Against UWRF, junior Sierra Dooley (Spring Lake Park, MN, Spring Lake Park) hit her first homerun of the season to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.  However, UWRF answered quickly by scoring three runs in the fifth inning and held on to defeat the Blazers 3-1.

The Blazers will play two games again tomororw. CSB will face Nazareth College and Utica College in back-to-back games starting at 3 pm.
