The College of Saint Benedict softball team was shutout twice by Gustavus Adolphus College Saturday afternoon in the final two games of the 2010 season. The Gusties defeated the Blazers 10-0 in game one and took the nightcap 5-0.
In the opener, the Blazers threatened in the bottom of the second inning when they loaded the bases with three consecutive singles by sophomore
Sierra Dooley (Spring Lake Park, MN, Spring Lake Park), senior
Beth Hanson (Faribault, MN, Bethlehem Academy), and first-year
Traci Thielen (Cold Spring, MN, Rocori). Junior
Abby Richardson (Storm Lake, IA, St. Mary's) hit a fly ball that was a few feet shy of clearing the fence, and GAC was able to escape without allowing a run.
In the nightcap, CSB tallied five hits including two from senior shortstop
Shannon Eveland (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove). Junior pitcher
Elle Borba (Ontario, CA, St. Lucy's Priory) was solid in relief as she only allowed one earned run in three innings of work.
The Blazers finished the season with a 9-13 record in the MIAC and a 14-22 record overall.
