The College of Saint Benedict softball team ran into two tough opponents Thursday morning at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. Ferrum defeated CSB (0-0 MIAC, 4-4 overall) for the second time this week by a score of 13-4, and the Rochester Institute of Technology shut out the Blazers 6-0 in the nightcap.
CSB started the game off strong against Ferrum with a two-run first inning, but it wasn't enough as sophomore pitcher
Emma Alwin (Plymouth, MN, Wayzata) suffered her first loss of the season. Junior
Carissa Hancock (Grand Rapids, MN, Grand Rapids) went 2-for-2 with a double, and senior
Shannon Eveland (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Junior
Abby Richardson (Storm Lake, IA, St. Mary's) added a double and a run scored.
The Blazers ran into a strong pitcher from RIT who shut down the Blazer offense. Eveland and sophomore
Sierra Dooley (Spring Lake Park, MN, Spring Lake Park) were the only Blazers to record hits in the game. Junior
Laura Althoff (Jordan, MN, Jordan) pitched a strong game as she only allowed three hits but walked five and hit one batter.
CSB will look to bounce back tomorrow, March 5th, when they face York College at 9 am and Widener University at 11 am. York defeated CSB 7-5 earlier in the week.
