Blazers Defeat Rival St. Thomas 60-51

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (18-5 overall, 16-4 MIAC) defeated the University of St. Thomas 60-51 in St. Paul, Minn., earlier this afternoon.

The Blazers started with a 6-2 lead before the Tommies moved ahead 13-7 with 15:30 remaining on the clock.  UST kept the lead for the next nine mintes until CSB tied the score at 19.  The Blazers then went on an 8-2 run, heading into the locker room with a 27-21 cushion.

The Tommies were able to bring the score within one during the second half but could never surpass the Blazers, who led by as much as 12 during the game.  Despite a 29% field goal percentage in the second half, the Blazers hed the Tommies to 30% and CSB went on to wil 60-51.  The Blazers forced 15 Tommie turnovers throughout the game while only committing 10 themselves.

The Blazers were led by juniors Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer) and Laura Canton (Pine Island, MN, Pine Island), each of whom had 15 points and eight rebounds.  Twelve of Canton's 15 points game in the second half along.

CSB next travels to Hamline on Wed., Feb. 17, where they take on the Pipers at 7:30 p.m.
