The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (4-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC) starts conference play with a 57-52 win over St. Catherine to remain undefeated overall.
The game began with a 12-6 Wildcat lead in the first seven minutes of the first half. St. Catherine continued to keep CSB at bay, extending the lead to 15-7 with 9:30 left on the clock. The Blazers fought back, capitalizing on an 13-4 run to lead 20-19 with one minute left in the half. The teams exchanged a few points in the remainder of the half, but CSB kept the lead 25-24 heading into the locker room.
CSB jumped ahead 30-26 in the first four minutes of the second half, but two minutes later the Wildcats took the lead 31-30. St. Catherine extended its lead to seven at 39-32 with 9:30 remaining. The Wildcats pushed ahead, leading 47-37 with six minutes left. CSB never gave up, stringing together a 12-2 run to tie the score at 49 with two minutes remaining. A while later, with 40 seconds remaining, the score was still tied at 52 a piece. The Blazers held the Wildcats scoreless in the last 40 seconds of the game as CSB went on to win 57-52.
