BOX SCORE
For the third straight game the College of Saint Benedict ice hockey team found themselves playing not to relinquish a lead after scoring first in a game. Unlike previous results however, the Blazers were able to hold on to a 1-1 tie while earning their first conference points of the season as they played against Bethel University.
Picking up the action after a scoreless first period, senior forward Holly Reinking (Maple Grove, MN, Elk River) found the back of the net on a power play to put the Blazers up 1-0. Sophomore forward Alexandra Carlson (Prior Lake, MN, Academy of Holy Angels) assisted on the play at 10:27. Taking advantage of another power play, the Royals were able to answer back late in the second evening the match at 1-1.
After a scoreless third period, the two squads headed into overtime where despite many Blazer quality chances, the two teams remained locked at a goal apiece.
First-year goalie Kaitlyn Rolando (Lake Elmo, MN, Tartan High School) started her second career game in net for Saint Benedict, collecting 37 saves.
The Blazers are off until they hit the road for a match against MIAC foe University of Saint Thomas. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 pm.
