The College of Saint Benedict softball team picked up their first win of the season Monday afternoon after dropping their first three games of the season.  The Blazers (1-3 overall, 0-0 MIAC) fell to Maryville College 11-3 but bounced back to defeat the Rochester Institute of Technology 7-6 in the nightcap.

Against Maryville, sophomore Kristen Herges (Rochester, MN, John Marshall) went 2-for-2 at the plate, while sophomore outfielder Abby Richardson (Storm Lake, IA, St. Mary's) went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

In game two against the Rochester Institute of Technology, the top of the batting order played a key role in the Blazer victory.  CSB scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and added three more in the bottom of the fifth.  Richardson went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored.  Senior third baseman Genna Strauss (Red Wing, MN, Red Wing) finished 2-for-4 with a double and added an RBI and run scored.  First-year first baseman Lis Wieneke (New Ulm, MN, New Ulm) went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, and two run scored.  First-year pitcher Emma Alwin (Plymouth, MN, Wayzata) picked up her first collegiate win on the mound for CSB.

CSB will be back in action tomorrow morning with games against Eastern University at 9 am and Heidelberg College at 11 am.
