Blazers Beat St. Olaf, Stay Undefeated at Home

Depth and defense again prevail for the College of Saint Benedict basketball team as they sail past St. Olaf 82-40 tonight in Claire Lynch.

CSB jumped off to a 10-2 lead in the first three minutes of the half.  St. Olaf held the Blazers' lead within 10 for the next 11 minutes until the Blazers pulled into a double digit lead for good.  They finished the half 37-20.

The Blazers started the second half much the same as the first with a 10-0 run over the first four minutes of the half, but continued to dominate the remainder of the game.  Eleven Blazers scored in the half, led by sophomore wing Abby Richardson (Storm Lake, IA, St. Mary's) who had 11 of her 13 points in her five minutes of play in the second half.  CSB finished with a final score of 82-40.

Blazer defense, whose opponents now average 17.2 turnovers per game, forced 25 Ole turnovers tonight.  Richardson and sophomore wing Joelle Waytashek (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial) led the scoring with 13 points each, while sophomore wing Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer) added 11 points.  Sophomore post Danielle Frank (Caledonia, MN, Caledonia) grabbed eight rebounds.

CSB next battles Concordia on Sat., Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. in Winona, Minn.  The Blazers rank first in the MIAC with a 15-2 conference record while the Cobbers hover in a close second with a 14-3 conference record.
