Herzog Gets First Win in Style

First-year goalie Lauren Herzog (Mendota Heights, MN, Convent of the Visitation) picked up her first win, completing a 1-0 shutout of the College of Saint Catherine today at Ridder Arena in Saint Paul.

In front of many of her former teammates who came to cheer her on, Herzog stopped all 22 of the Wildcates shots for her first colligate shutout. “Lauren played really well, she made some big saves,” head coach Pat Michaud said of Herzog's performance.

The College of Saint Benedict (0-0 MIAC, 2-0-0 overall) with this win closed out a tough stretch of four games in six days. The grueling start showed in the first period, with the Blazers coming out onto the ice sluggish and only attempting five shots on goal. First-year forward Amie Ernst (North Mankato, MN, Mankato Loyola) helped the team turn it around in the second period, scoring at 10:57 while being assisted fellow by first-year center Jennifer Yelle (Coon Rapids, MN, Coon Rapids) and sophomore forward Holly Reinking (Maple Grove, MN, Elk River). The Blazers finished with 17 shots on goal.

“The Ridder is a tough place to play; it was a good test of character for us after our big win on Tuesday. This was a big stretch of games for a really young team and it would have been easy for us to let down, so to get this win is nice,” Michaud said.

The Blazers next game comes at home Nov. 14 at the MAC in Saint Cloud. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm
