ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Ally Hjort seems to feel right at home at Augsburg’s field.
Last year against the Auggies, Hjort threw the first no-hitter of her College of Saint Benedict softball career. This past weekend at Augsburg, she threw a one-hitter to help her team to a 10-run, six-inning win. For her performance on the mound, Hjort is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
After dropping a big MIAC game to St. Kate’s Tuesday, CSB needed a win to get back on track Sunday against the Auggies, and Hjort played a key role in doing just that. She allowed just three base runners in six innings as CSB beat Augsburg 10-0 in six innings in the first game of the conference doubleheader. The lone hit was a single to center in the bottom of the fifth, but that was it.
Sunday marked the second complete-game one-hitter of the season for Hjort, who also accomplished the feat on Feb. 22 against Northwestern. She is currently 10-1 on the year, and is fifth in the MIAC with a 1.71 ERA. She is also seventh in the league with 70 strikeouts. She posted a career-high 12 strikeouts on April 4 in a 10-inning loss to Gustavus – her only loss of the season.
Hjort and her teammates have a busy week this week thanks to the mid-April snowstorm and a rainy forecast. CSB is at Bethel Tuesday, April 16, hosts Saint Mary’s Thursday, April 18, heads to Northfield to take on Carleton Saturday and then travels to Moorhead Monday, April 22, for a makeup game against Concordia.
