ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Heading into the weekend, Nikki Frederickson had never recorded an 18-hole score in the 70s in her collegiate golfing career.
After two rounds of tournament play this weekend, she now has two rounds in the 70s.
Frederickson shot a career-best 76 not once but twice this past weekend to lead the College of Saint Benedict golf team at the D3 Classic. For her career-low and her play over the course of the hot, muggy weekend, Frederickson is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
In Saturday’s first round at the D3 Classic, held at The Jewel in Lake City, she carded a career-low 76. That marked the team’s best score of the day, and was good enough for a tie for eighth in the individual race at the 13-team tournament.
Sunday, Fredrickson matched her career-best with another 76. When scores were tallied Sunday afternoon, she finished the tournament in seventh with a 152 – tied for the third-best 36-hole score in Saint Benedict golf history. Her 18-hole score both days ties for the sixth-best individual round in school history.
Frederickson’s seventh-place finish marks the first top-10 finish in her two seasons with the CSB golf team. She has finished in the top 25 in all three tournaments Saint Benedict has competed in so far this season.
Frederickson and her teammates have one more tournament remaining before the 2018 MIAC Championships. The final tune-up for the team is Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22-23, at the College City Challenge in Hastings. The conference meet is Sept. 29-Oct. 1 at Pebble Creek in Becker.
