ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - The College of Saint Benedict track and field team finished top-five in a tight team race this past weekend at the MIAC Indoor Championships. A handful of points separated the teams in the second- through seventh-place spots, and senior Megan Sundstrom’s contributions helped her team finish in the top five for the 10
th time in the past 11 seasons.
Sundstrom recorded two top-three finishes and two more top-six finishes and had a hand in 24 points for CSB. After her big weekend, she is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
Sundstrom gave CSB a 10-point boost by winning the pentathlon on Thursday, marking her first individual MIAC championship. She took second in the 60-meter hurdles, tied for second in high jump, won the long jump and 800-meter run and finished eighth in the shot put.
The senior from Proctor recorded career-best marks in high jump with a height of 1.51 meters and long jump with a mark of 1.50 meters. After competing in five events Thursday, she earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention by taking sixth in the 60-meter hurdles on Friday.
After busy days Thursday and Friday, Sundstrom still had more to give. She took third in the triple jump on Saturday to earn All-MIAC honors, and she also ran the first leg of the 4x200-meter relay team, which finished fourth to score valuable points for the team and earn All-MIAC Honorable Mention honors.
Sundstrom is currently ranked 17
th in the pentathlon in Division III, and will compete at a last-chance meet this week to see if she can move up and qualify for the indoor national championships for the second straight year.
