Last season, Megan Sundstrom ended the season in the top 11 in the nation in the pentathlon. With one pentathlon under her belt in 2018, she’s already back in the top 10.
Â
Sundstrom, a senior on the College of Saint Benedict track and field team, is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week after of her performance at the Bison Invite on Friday. The invite – hosted by North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. – featured several Division I athletes.
Â
Out of 10 competitors in the pentathlon, Sundstrom finished fourth and was the top Division III finished at the invite; she finished behind three NDSU athletes and was only six points away from finishing in third place. Sundstrom’s score of 3,266 is currently ninth in Division III, and leads the MIAC by more than 450 points.
Â
Her best finish of the five events in the pentathlon was third place in the 800-meter run. Following that, Sundstrom took fourth in the high jump, fifth in the shot put, and sixth in the long jump and 60 hurdles.
Â
She managed to score career bests in the high jump with 1.49 meters and the shot put with 9.93 meters, with her shot put being a personal best by 32 centimeters. Sundstrom also ran season-bests in the 60 hurdles and the 800, along with a season-best in the long jump.
Â
