Big meets seem to be where Morgan Pierce shines the most.
Â
For the second time this year, Pierce – a junior on the College of Saint Benedict cross country team – is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week. The latest honor comes at the 14-team, 219-runner Running of the Cows Invite, hosted by Carleton in Northfield.
Â
Pierce wasn’t daunted by the number of runners competing. The Mandan, N.D. native took fifth in 22:51. The 6K time is now the sixth-best time in CSB history. Her time marked a new personal best by just over a minute and 30 seconds.
Â
Saturday’s finished marked Pierce’s fourth-straight top-five finish this year, including a second-place finish at the Crown Invite, a win at Luther, a win at the alumnae meet, and now fifth at Carleton.
Â
To add on to her success, Pierce is now in the top 15 in CSB history for both the 5K and the 6K, as she ran the 12
th-best time in CSB history in the 5K earlier this season. The cross country team has its next meet this Friday, Oct. 6, when it competes at the Bob Waxlax Invite in St. Cloud. Â
