The Bethel hockey team’s offense came out firing Saturday afternoon, but Julia Carle was ready.
 
Carle, a sophomore goalie for the College of Saint Benedict hockey team, made 48 saves against Bethel. She was only two saves away from tying her career high, and her outstanding performance during the game makes her this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
 
Carle’s 48 saves helped Saint Benedict finish the game with a 2-2, overtime against Bethel, and made this the first MIAC tie or win game for CSB this season. Three of the saves came during overtime and helped CSB hang onto the tie for the game.
 
Carle’s big performance Saturday comes after she made 23 saves Wednesday in the team’s 3-1 loss to Hamline in a makeup game from mid-November.
 
Carle is ranked fifth in MIAC right now with 304 saves so far for the season. That marked the second team this season that Carle has had 40 or more saves so far this season. The team has its next MIAC game against St. Thomas on Friday, Jan. 27 at Torrey Arena at the MAC in St. Cloud.
