ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After the first day of the College City Challenge Saturday afternoon, Lauren Wise, a senior on the College of Saint Benedict golf team, was tied for 15
th.
Sunday morning, Wise eight strokes off her score and jumped 13 places to finish in a tie for second. For her strong performance over the weekend, Wise has been named the CSB Athlete of the Week.
In Saturday’s first round at Bellwood Oaks in Hastings, Minn., Wise shot an 83 and was tied for 15
th with four other golfers, including teammate Madeline Pagel. Her 83 Saturday marked her second-highest score of the season.
Sunday, Wise kicked her game into high gear. She shot a season-low and led the field with a 75, eight strokes better than Saturday’s score. Her 75 was enough to push her from a tie for 15
th to a tie for second to lead CSB, which finished tied for sixth as a team. Wise, along with St. Kate’s Abby Conzemius and Gustavus’ Mae Meierhenry, all finished the weekend with 158s.
Wise’s top-10 finish Sunday marked her third of the season. She tied for ninth to start her senior year at the CSB Invite, then won the MIAC Showcase the following weekend. The Prior Lake, Minn., native tied for 37
th last weekend at the DIII Classic before adding a runner-up finish.
The weekend tournament was the final tune-up for Wise and the Blazers heading into the MIAC Championship, which runs Saturday-Monday, Oct. 4-6, at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids, Minn. Saint Benedict finished fifth in 2014, and Wise tied for 17
th individually.
