ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Sometimes the transition from high school to college sports can be a tough one for first year athletes, but Kenzie Young doesn’t seem to be having any issues.

In her second weekend of collegiate competition with the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving time, Young recorded four individual first-place finishes and two other individual top-four finishes, as well as a top-two finish with a relay team.

For her performance over the weekend, Young has been named the Blazer Athlete of the Week.

Young, a Brookings, S.D., native, was one of three Blazer swimmers to win a pair of events Friday night in a dual against MSU-Moorhead, an NCAA Division II program in Moorhead, Minn. She won the 500 and 1,000 freestyle races in CSB’s dual loss to the Dragons, and also took fourth in the 200 individual medley and was part of the second-place 400 freestyle relay team.

Young’s time of 11:13.62 in the 1,000 freestyle not only won the race, it also marked the eighth-best time in the event in Saint Benedict swimming and diving history, and is the fourth-best time recorded to date in the MIAC. She won the 500 in 5:29.28 and finished the 200 individual medley in 2:22.37.

Saturday afternoon, Young was at it again as she picked up two more wins to help the Blazers defeat MIAC rival Concordia 205-73 in Moorhead, Minn. This time, she won the 200 and 500 freestyles and took third in the 100 butterfly.

Young finished the 200 freestyle race in 2:05.92 and the 500 in 5:32.55. She took third in the 100 butterfly in 1:08.16.

Young and the Blazers get to compete at home for the first time this season on Friday, Nov. 21, when they host St. Kate’s for a combined dual meet with Saint John’s University and South Dakota State University. CSB hosts St. Kate’s and the Johnnies host SDSU, and the two duals will run concurrently starting at 6 p.m. at the Warner Palestra Pool on the Saint John’s campus.
