ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Stephanie Kirk definitely got off on the right foot with the College of saint Benedict hockey team last season.
As a first year in 2013-14, Kirk led the team with 11 goals and tied for first with Elli Marvin with 16 total points.
Two games into her sophomore season, Kirk has picked up where she left off.
So far in 2013-14, Kirk has two of the Blazers’ six goals, and she also has one assist to her name. In CSB’s lone game this past weekend – a 4-2, nonconference win over St. Kate’s – Kirk notched a goal and an assist for CSB. For her performance, Kirk has been named the Blazer Athlete of the Week.
Kirk helped the Blazers beat St. Kate’s for the first time since 2012-13 Friday night with an unassisted goal in the second period and an assist in the third. Her goal came in the 16
th minute of the second period and put Saint Benedict up 2-1. Kirk’s assist came on Elli Marvin’s goal at 2:40 in the third period, and put CSB up for good on the Wildcats.
In three games played, Kirk has a team-high two goals to go along with her assist, and she leads the team with three points. She also has six shots so far this season.
Saint Benedict is 1-2 heading into its first home and MIAC games of the year this coming weekend. The Blazers host St. Olaf at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the MAC in St. Cloud, Minn. CSB is on the road against the Oles at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in Northfield, Minn.
