ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Chances are whenever the College of Saint Benedict soccer team scores a goal, if Aly Hoffman didn’t score it, she was involved in some way.
That was the case again this weekend as the Blazers shut out Bethel University 2-0 Saturday afternoon. Hoffman scored one goal and had a hand in another to help CSB push its current win streak to three games.
For her consistent play and big play-making abilities, Hoffman, a junior forward, has been named the Blazer Athlete of the Week.
Saturday afternoon, Hoffman, a Chaska, Minn., native, generated one goal and scored another for Saint Benedict. Her solid footwork and strong play in front of the Bethel net produced a good shot for Gracie Vaughan. Vaughan’s shot attempt was saved by the Royals’ goalie, but first year Sydney Bramer got the rebound and kicked it into the back of the net to put the Blazers up 1-0.
Three minutes later, Hoffman capitalized on a scoring opportunity of her own to put CSB up 2-0. She took a pass from Kelsey Tatarek in front of the Bethel net and sent it past the goalkeeper for her fifth goal of the season.
Hoffman currently leads the Blazers in points (14) and goals (5) and is tied with Vaughan with four assists. She is also second on the team with 24 shots, including 15 shots on goal. Hoffman is fifth in the MIAC in total points and tied for seventh with her five goals.
The Blazers are currently 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the MIAC and on a three-game winning streak. CSB, which is third in the conference, hosts St. Thomas – which is fourth in the MIAC – at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the SJU practice field in Collegeville, Minn.
