Renier named Blazer Athlete of the Week ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Peggy Renier had at least a hand in two huge goals for the College of Saint Benedict soccer team this past week.
Renier, a junior from Plymouth, Minn., had an assist on the Blazers’ game-winning goal in double overtime against Macalester Wednesday, and she scored the lone goal of the game to lift CSB to a nonconference win against UW-Oshkosh Sunday afternoon.
For her hand in a pair of big wins, Renier has been named the Blazer Athlete of the Week.
Renier’s first points this last week came in the final seconds of a MIAC game in St. Paul, Minn. The Blazers and Macalester were tied at 0-0 through regulation and the first 10-minute overtime period, and the game looked like it would go down as a scoreless tie for both teams. But, with 14 seconds left in the second overtime, Renier found the foot Taylor Hedin, who scored the game-winning goal for CSB.
Renier added two more points to her season tally Sunday afternoon when the Blazers hosted UW-Oshkosh in their final nonconference matchup of the season. CSB was looking to bounce back from a loss at Carleton Saturday afternoon, and the Titans and Blazers were scoreless in the first period. Renier broke that scoreless tie just five minutes into the second half to give CSB all the points it would need for the day when she scored off an assist from Gracie Vaughan.
Sunday’s goal marked Renier’s third of the season. She is second on the team in goals and third with two assists. She is also third on the team with eight total points so far this season, but leads CSB with 23 total shots and 15 shots on goal.
Renier and the Blazers, who are No. 24 in this week’s poll, are back at home Saturday, Oct. 11, when they host Bethel at 1 p.m.
