ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – History was made on the track once again by Fiona Smith, this time at her first career NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  

It was a weekend of firsts as Smith represented the College of Saint Benedict at the Division III indoor championships. She is the first to earn All-American honors in the indoor 3K and 5K in CSB history. She is also the first to earn two All-American honors in one meet, just to name a few. For her outstanding finish at championships, Smith earns CSB Athlete of the Week this week.  

Smith finished fifth in the 5K in 16:48.65 to earn her first All-American honors of the weekend. She then finished third in the 3K in 9:45.72 the following day to earn her second All-American honors to become the first CSB track and field athlete to earn two All-American honors in the same meet. Smith is also the first athlete in CSB history to earn three All-American honors in one school year.  

Smith's third place finish in the 3K is the best finish at indoor nationals since 2001, where Caroline Boatz took third in the pole vault. It is also the best overall finish since Jenna Degen took third in the heptathlon in at the 2017 outdoor nationals meet.   

Smith rounded out the indoor track and field season in spectacular fashion and will look to continue the momentum as she moves into her second season of outdoor track and field to finish her sophomore year.
